Requirements
- Earned Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science from an American Library Association accredited program
- At least one year of experience in archives or libraries
- One or more years of experience working with archival or cultural heritage materials and processes
- Demonstrated experience with software development technologies and practices, especially related to open-source technologies used for archives and cultural heritage practices
- Demonstrated experience with digitization best practices, including work with creating robust online digital collections
- Familiarity with web content standards, metadata standards, and file format specifications
- Ability to convey complex technical concepts to staff, faculty, and students regardless of technical background
- Demonstrated ability to establish partnerships and the ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team environment
- Competence and sensitivity in working with individuals who are highly diverse regarding many facets of identity, including but not limited to gender, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, ability, income, level of educational attainment, and religion.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development, use, promotion, and support of the Special Collection and Archives’ repository (Special Collections and Archives Portal) and the digital materials hosted there
- Provide support to enhance discovery, access, management, and preservation of Special Collections and Archives assets within the Special Collections and Archives Portal
- Serve as the product manager for the repository software
- Support and enhance multiple workflows to deliver online access to Special Collections and Archives materials
- Serve as liaison connecting multiple Libraries teams to sustain work in an efficient, accurate, high production digitization environment
- Responsible for all aspects of collection preparation when material is prioritized for digitization
- Assess collections for digitization readiness and prepare digitization plans that take many factors into account
- Regular consultation with the Division and other project team members to make decisions reflecting the values of UNLV University Libraries
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with Islandora, Drupal, and/or other repository open-source communities
- Demonstrated technical project leadership and/or project management certification
- Knowledge of copyright, sharing, and use standards as they relate to repositories
- A robust understanding of the digital preservation life cycle, industry standards, and evolving best practices
- Experience writing and managing externally-funded projects
- Experience managing developers or technical staff
