Requirements
- Pursing degree in health and safety, or related field
- Knowledge of Health and Safety regulations
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Detail oriented and self-motivated
- Ability to work independently and as an effective team member
- Ability to travel to Internship Summit, hosted at one of our Zekelman Industries’ locations
Responsibilities
- Supports the facility safety culture and improvements by participating in projects or initiatives identified by the site.
- Assists in safety audits by collaborating with senior health and safety professionals to conduct workplace safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and compliance issues.
- Collects and analyzes safety data, including incident reports, near misses, and safety performance metrics, and helps in preparing reports and recommendations based on data analysis.
- Completes a safety project that is developed by the facility regarding specific needs. Will collect data, perform audits, compile results and recommendations. The candidate will then prepare a presentation to present to plant leadership who will offer suggestions prior to a Business Unit presentation.
- Maintains and updates safety records, procedures, and policies to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices.
- Supports incident investigations by gathering information, interviewing witnesses, and assisting in root cause analysis.
- Participates in the development and testing of emergency response plans and procedures.
- Contributes to the creation and distribution of safety communication materials and initiatives to promote awareness and safe work practices.
- Stays current with industry best practices, regulations, and emerging trends in health and safety to contribute ideas and recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Leads and promotes healthy and safe work practices as required by regulatory agencies and Company policy.
- Performs other duties as they might be assigned.
- Regular, full-time predictable onsite attendance is an essential function of this role.
