Requirements
- Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree in engineering with experience in aircraft structural design or an equivalent combination of technical education and aerospace experience.
- Exceptional communication and team-building skills, with a proven ability to collaborate effectively across diverse engineering disciplines and external suppliers.
- Demonstrated experience creating CAD models and designing composite and metallic components and structures.
- In-depth understanding of aircraft certification standards and a strong familiarity with FAR Part 25 requirements, ensuring compliance with airworthiness, safety, and performance criteria throughout the design, testing, and validation phases of aircraft development.
- Demonstrated experience in key technical disciplines: metallic & composite materials, material & processes, load paths, stress analysis, finite element modeling.
- Excellent problem-solving skills; can lead a team through solving hard, complex, ambiguous technical problems.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with manufacturing teams and external suppliers throughout the fabrication and assembly process, providing technical guidance, resolving issues, and ensuring adherence to design specifications, quality standards, and schedule requirements.
- Perform classical structural analysis of primary and secondary aircraft components, applying established engineering principles and methodologies to optimize design for strength, durability, and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Develop test plans and oversee design of component and assembly level structural tests in collaboration with Stress Analysis Engineers.
- Support the development of material allowables through testing, data analysis, and documentation to ensure structural performance and compliance with certification requirements.
- Develop detailed specifications, technical requirements, and supporting documentation to guide the design, manufacturing, and qualification of structural flight hardware.
- Create, modify, and manage detailed CAD models within a PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) environment, ensuring accuracy, version control, and integration with engineering workflows.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with at least one aircraft program, guiding it from initial concept all the way through flight and certification, or an equivalent experience that demonstrates your ability to take projects from idea to reality.
- Previous experience with structural and systems integration related to structural design ownership/responsibility on a development aircraft.
- Ability to understand early development priorities to inform detailed design decisions.
- Experience in coupon- and element-level structural testing, including test planning, execution, data analysis, and correlation with analytical models to validate material properties and structural behavior.
- Experience with materials testing, structural certification, and conducting component- and assembly-level structural tests for aerospace applications.
- Hands-on composite fabrication experience and proficiency in finite element analysis of aerospace structures.
