Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Must have a CPA or Chartered Accountant with a broad familiarity with key accounting and financial reporting issues and their relevance to corporate and infrastructure companies
  • Minimum 5-10 years professional accounting experience, preferably a large (‘Big 4’) accounting firm is required. National Office experience or work with Accounting Standard Setters is a plus.
  • Must be affluent in financial statement analysis and accounting standards e.g., U.S. GAAP and IFRS and accounting/analytical interpretation.
  • A strong knowledge of the corporate and infrastructure industry is required
  • Strong accounting skills with ability to bridge issues with the related credit risk and/or economic and financial attributes.
  • Strong verbal and presentation skills are required

Responsibilities

  • Primarily focus on companies based in the U.S., Canada, and Latin America across a broad range of non-financial corporate sectors.
  • Act as an advisor to S&P analysts on discerning accounting, financial reporting and key disclosures.
  • Train and upskill analysts on new and emerging accounting issues that are analytically relevant e.g., consolidation, software costs, EBITDA addbacks, convertible debt.
  • Participate in rating committees and management meetings, as needed.
  • Proficient at pulling, organizing, reviewing and analyzing data from both internal (such as S&P Capital IQ) and external platforms (EDGAR) as it relates to financial reporting & disclosures.
  • Lead the publishing of research commentaries on key accounting matters that are analytically impactful to credit analysis e.g., supplier financing, taxes.
  • Contribute to the development of S&P Criteria and S&P analytical models.
  • Closely follow the activities of the accounting standard-setters and regulators to provide feedback and keep analysts informed of emerging financial reporting matters.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA or CFA desirable
  • General knowledge of credit analysis is a plus.
  • Fluency is Spanish or Portuguese is a plus.
