Requirements

  • Customs compliance experience is required for consideration
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel required
  • Ability to manage and organize large amounts of data
  • Experience with SAP or other enterprise systems
  • Must have demonstrated experience in apparel and footwear tariff classification
  • Knowledge and experience interpreting Free Trade Agreements as they relate to apparel, footwear, and accessories
  • Ability to enhance and implement ‘best practices’ with a mindset toward continuous improvement
  • Ability to solve complex business problems with forward thinking solutions
  • Ability to work in a fast paced yet casual environment
  • Familiarity with Customs ACE and monthly ACH required
  • Ability to set own targets and meet them with general guidance and direction
  • Experience with helping to build up skills and capacity of other teammates

Responsibilities

  • Provide support in customs compliance for the VF Outdoor Coalition
  • Assist the Compliance Manager and group Director in the Harmonized Tariff classification of all products
  • Provide instructions to customs brokers
  • Assist in the creation and modification of department processes
  • Perform audits and data analysis
  • Engages with product acquisition (sourcing) and product development departments in the PLM process to evaluate Harmonized Tariff Classifications, duty rates, preference program qualifications, and other applicable customs compliance criteria
  • Works in conjunction with the logistics department to report, collect, and track export shipment data required for the purpose of filing duty drawback claims with U.S. Customs
  • Develops and supports platforms for managing duty recovery efforts and value reconciliation
  • Communicates and shares information with customs brokers for the clearance of customs entries
  • Handles non-routine and complicated issues with the brokers and assists junior members of the team with their customs clearance related questions
  • Develop and supports platforms for managing post-importation audits and brand self-assessments for annual Trusted Trader program
  • Audits customs entries for correctness and conformity with appropriate laws and regulations
  • Delegates entry audit responsibilities to junior members of the team
  • Advises staff of all other customs and other government requirements, e.g., Fish and Wildlife, FDA, Safety, and Federal Trade Commission requirements
  • Supports area Manager and group Director in updating and maintaining customs Import Procedures Guide and other department related SOPs and reference materials
  • Monitors and updates internal systems to ensure all necessary data and data tables are accurate
  • Directs their correction with other internal teams if necessary
  • Monitors new developments and changes in customs laws, trade agreements, and port policies and communicates this information internally as necessary
  • Researches, interprets, and communicates customs rulings, laws, and regulations and applies this knowledge where necessary
  • Monitors customs recordkeeping compliance and directs changes as necessary
  • Analyzes control systems for compliance requirements; identifies areas for systems improvement and enhancement and works with group Director in implementing systems improvements
  • Trains and supports junior members of the team on their responsibilities
  • Communicates effectively and persuasively with customs brokers and VF associates both within and outside of the Customs Compliance group and at all levels of the organization
  • Assists in the development and testing of new systems to ensure they have the proper functionality to meet the department’s needs
  • Generates and analyzes import data to correct any customs entry errors, develop KPIs, and identify refund and duty saving opportunities across VF’s brands and regions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Access desired
  • Familiarity with Europe and Canada customs in the areas of classification, valuation, and Free Trade Agreements desired
