Requirements
- 7+ years of law firm and/or in-house experience, including at least 5 years working on relevant product matters, preferably with some experience at a software/SaaS company
- Strong understanding of cloud service offerings, including managed service offerings and multi-tenant SaaS architecture
- Ability to understand technical lingo and concepts as well as fluency in software development methods and related business models
- Expertise in intellectual property, open source issues, and information and product security, along with an awareness of data privacy issues
- Sound and practical legal and business judgment, as well as the ability to think strategically and develop strong working relationships with key internal clients
- Wide and general knowledge of global laws that can affect product development and release
- Self-motivation to take the initiative and dig in to understand and independently advise on issues related to product counseling of first impression
- Experience drafting contract language and negotiating strongly preferred
- Team oriented with a sense of humor
- Strong academic background and a licensed lawyer in good standing in the jurisdiction where you work and reside
Responsibilities
- Counsel and work closely with Okta’s Product Management and Engineering teams through all stages of software product and cloud service life cycles to support development, readiness and release by reviewing and issue spotting on a wide range of issues related to intellectual property, open source, data privacy & security, marketing, competition, payment, and other legal and regulatory matters
- Develop strong and collaborative relationships with cross-functional partners across Okta to effectively deliver on complex projects
- Support M&A activities, including diligence and integration
- Review, draft and negotiate technology agreements related to Okta’s product portfolio, e.g., inbound license agreements, partner agreements, consulting and development agreements
- Perform due diligence to ensure compliance with third-party agreements, open source licenses, security attestations, privacy policies, and government regulations and certifications
- Review order document language and draft offering specific terms for new and innovative products and release methods
- Help develop, document, and socialize scalable and repeatable practices and procedures for internal clients to access legal support
