Your Opportunity

The Senior Fiduciary Tax Manager is responsible for managing the tax preparation and all tax processes for all personal trust accounts.  Charles Schwab Trust Company follows the three lines of defense model of risk governance.  The Senior Fiduciary Tax Manager is a first line of defense position and assures compliance with all policies and procedures, as well as all applicable state and federal regulations in the context of their responsibilities.

This position is the primary contact for the tax preparation vendor. This position will:

  • Work with clients, advisors, and trust administrators in answering complex tax questions
  • Review trust documents to confirm the tax return type on InnoTrust trust accounting system
  • Perform tax reviews for account closings
  • Act as liaison between tax vendor and trust administrators to answer tax questions regarding transactional activity in Personal Trust accounts
  • Coordinate with tax vendor to prioritize tax return processing
  • Maintain Tax Tracking
  • Ensure necessary tax extensions are filed by April 15
  • Review tax returns as they are prepared by tax preparation vendor; and follow-up with any questions or issues
  • Review and mail all K-1 and grantor letters to beneficiaries
  • Review spreadsheets listing monies due for tax filings, estimated payments, and extension payments 
  • Review and process electronic and check tax payments for Personal Trust accounts
  • Load trust documents, tax notices, and K-1s into OneSource’s workflow management system
  • File IRS election and registration forms upon request
  • Investigate and respond to IRS notices
  • Track the receipt of all tax refunds due to trust accounts
  • Investigate any discrepancies between refunds expected and refunds received
  • Other duties as requested 

What you have

  • 7+ years of fiduciary tax experience with a bank trust department or independent trust company or similar relevant experience preferred.  JD, LLM, CPA, or MT preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.  Requires excellent time management skills, ability to juggle multiple competing priorities, with strength in identifying and implementing solutions to address the critical needs
  • Experience with the IRS desired
  • Strong analytical skills, ability to research problems, determine root causes and solutions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Ability to translate business needs into business requirements, and then implement
  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Advanced degree preferred
