Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- 6+ years of relevant experience
- Extensive polymer science background with a deep understanding of structure-property relationships of typical PCB thermoset and thermoplastic materials
- In-depth knowledge of the entire PCB stack, from resins and prepreg materials to metallization techniques to SMT solder reflow process conditions
- Extensive experience in the PCB manufacturing industry with strong industry ties
- Proven experience in systematically planning and executing experiments to optimize processes or products
- Experience with PCB metallization techniques such as electro- and electroless plating and physical vapor deposition techniques such as sputtering, thermal evaporation, and e-beam evaporation
- Extensive experience with material characterization techniques including FTIR, NMR, dielectric s-parameters, yield strength, tensile strength, elastic modulus, thermal conductivity, and coefficient of thermal expansion
- Hands-on experience with identifying and solving defects & process control issues in PCB and components, both in-house and at partners/suppliers
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Responsibilities
- Materials selection, qualification, and manufacturing process development of PCB materials for high power electronics devices used in consumer and datacenter applications
- Collaborate closely with outside suppliers and manufacturing partners to develop and validate hardware solutions, ensuring that project work and timelines are clearly defined, communicated and updated
- Systematically plan and lead the execution on experiments to identify and study property-structure relationships of PCB materials and manufacturing processing metrics, optimizing for performance, cost, and yield
- Collect, interpret, and present data from disparate sources to internal partners
- Collaborate closely with product managers to ensure new product specifications are met or exceeded
- Develop and document validation test plans, incorporating pass/fail criteria that align with hardware performance targets
- Lead failure analysis studies and feed root cause data back into the development cycle for iterative design and process improvement
- Identify and predict trends in PCB materials and manufacturing processes.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD in a related field
- Experience with advanced and innovative PCB manufacturing techniques and materials is a plus!
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to PCB materials and manufacturing
- Background with PCB layout tools
