Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in the MEP field including experience designing power plants.
  • Ability to review confidential US security information.
  • Current Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).

Responsibilities

  • Provide discipline-specific system design: layout (utilizing CAD/BIM); calculations (utilizing appropriate software, e.g. ThermoFlex, DesignBuilder); and other related design services including coordination with other disciplines (architectural and engineering / internal and external) for central heating and power plants.
  • Review and manage mechanical designs for power and central plants, including piping (chilled water, hot water, steam, compressed air, natural gas, fuel oil), building HVAC and ventilation systems, gas-fired turbines, steam turbines, water tube boilers, fire tube boilers, heat recovery steam generators, and manage project specifications, basis of design documents, system narratives, and system layouts for a variety of projects and project sizes.
  • Support critical subcontract bid package development and participation of subcontractors.
  • Support equipment procurement RFP packages and selection of critical equipment.
  • Establish systems application, design, and operational parameters/sequences of operation, work with SCADA subcontractor to develop points list and walk through of critical operations points.
  • Participate in QA/QC processes for your work and the work of peers and consultants.
  • Perform construction administration and field investigation tasks for assigned projects, including conducting assessments of existing conditions, field inspections, and subsequent detailed inspection reports.
  • Process RFIs, submittals, and minimize design revisions during the implementation phase.
  • Participate in the commissioning and testing of projects.
  • Participate in schedule updates with the project construction teams.
  • Manage customer relationships and expectations throughout the project lifecycle, working in close contact with and effectively interacting with the internal design team and consultants (including owners, builders, developers, program managers, architects, vendors, etc.).
  • Perform other duties as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD MEP and REVIT.
  • Proficient in design and calculation software (ThermoFlex, DesignBuilder, CAESAR II); MS Office.
  • Thorough understanding of applicable codes.
  • Ability to travel as required.
  • Experience working in an Engineering and/or Architectural/Engineering consulting firm strongly desired.
  • Leadership, initiative, and problem-solving skills for large-scale projects required.
  • OSHA training.
  • Experience working on Federal projects is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of thermodynamic cycles, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer principles.
  • Proficiency in designing HVAC systems, including load calculations, duct design, and equipment selection.
  • In-depth knowledge of boiler design, operation, and maintenance, as well as steam and gas turbine/engine systems.
  • Experience in designing chilled water systems, including chillers, pumps, and associated piping.
  • Understanding of the design and operation of compressed air systems, including air compressors and storage.
  • Knowledge of heat recovery steam generators (HRSG) and their integration into power cycles.
