Requirements
- 5+ years of hands-on payroll processing experience in the entertainment industry
- Strong knowledge of taxable fringe benefits and processing of stock transactions
- Strong knowledge of federal and state payroll regulations with an emphasis on multi-state taxation and garnishments
- Experience and knowledge of California Labor laws
- Experience and knowledge of automated time and attendance systems
- Intermediate Excel skills using VLOOKUP and pivots
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- High degree of professionalism
- Ability to deliver high-quality customer service and establish/maintain effective and collaborative working relationships
- Excellent judgment, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as a team player
- Ability to explain all payroll calculations and deductions to employees and all levels of management
Responsibilities
- Perform all duties necessary to timely and accurately process multi-state bi-weekly and weekly payrolls for salary, hourly, and freelance employees
- Process on-demand payments, retroactive payments, one-time payments, taxable fringe benefits, tax adjustments, and equity-based compensation ensuring compliance with company policies, contracts, and federal and state regulations
- Export and reconcile data from the time and attendance system
- Review and audit timesheet data for appropriateness
- Review, audit, and reconcile payrolls
- Prepare and process stop payments, void checks, direct deposit reversals, and overpayment collections in accordance with company, federal, and state regulations
- Assist employees and management with questions, concerns, or requests regarding payroll while properly applying technical knowledge and skills, communicating, and listening effectively
- Interpret garnishment documents and respond promptly while communicating with employees and vendors as necessary
- Interpret and set up withholding orders for levies, garnishments, child support, and other involuntary wage assignment orders in the payroll system within the regulated period
- Ensure compliance with company policies, internal controls, and SOX controls
- Understand proper taxation of all employee payments including employer-paid benefits and equity-based compensation
