Requirements
- Performance and controls experience.
- Machine, engine, powertrain or electronics system performance/integration experience.
- Experience with controls systems and software development and use of Matlab, Simulink, etc.
- Hands-on machine testing experience collecting and analyzing data.
- Knowledge of business process improvement tools and techniques.
- Strong analytical skills with demonstrated problem-solving ability.
- Ability to communicate technical information effectively with team members and others in a workgroup, as well as employees in other business units, customers, and suppliers.
- Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics.
- Knowledge of tools and techniques of specialized simulation/analysis programs.
Responsibilities
- Lead Machine Performance and Controls development for Large Mining Truck (LMT) machine programs working with various teams across Caterpillar.
- Perform expert evaluations of concepts to understand machine performance, Total Cost of Ownership, and Cost/ton tradeoffs for multiple customer sites and drive decision-making on final configuration(s) selection.
- Perform (or drive) complex simulations (using Caterpillar Dynasty tool) to provide detailed requirements for sub-system development (Powertrain, Hydraulics, Engine Installation and Cooling, etc.).
- Develop controls requirements to optimize the machine performance for various customer segments and operating conditions.
- Oversee development and validation plans of the same to ensure highest quality control software development employing Virtual Product Development, Software in the Loop, and Hardware in the Loop processes.
- Participate in Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Validation workshops for the machine NPI programs.
- Lead validation of machine performance at proving grounds and customer sites.
- Develop machine field risk mitigation/monitoring plans for pilot machines.
- Publish machine performance data for internal and external use.
- Initiate and support New Technology Introduction (NTI) programs that impact the products short and long-term strategies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s or Ph.D. in Engineering, Computer Science, Analytics or related fields.
- Knowledge of competitive machines in the mining industry.
- Knowledge of full machine performance simulations.
