Requirements
- 4-year Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or related field)
- Typically, 12 years or more of roadway design experience
- Proven ability to perform in a lead capacity
- DOT Experience
Responsibilities
- Review and approve discipline staffing budget estimates and staffing assignment schedules on each project
- If assigned to a major program, manage all specific engineering and design efforts for program’s structural discipline
- Coordinate structural discipline staffing requirements for the program
- Monitor the quality and progress of the discipline on each project, ensuring that production requirements are satisfied
- Work closely with Project Managers and Task Leads to resolve any existing or potential issues (including staffing, quality, schedule, or productivity)
- Establish standards/procedures manuals and recommend improvements to procedures
- Ensure performance within overhead budgets authorized for the discipline / Actively participate in and promotes the Quality Improvement Program / May head a committee within the discipline, striving to motivate and educate the assigned personnel
- Maintain appropriate staffing level, including temporary personnel, as necessary (+ review and approve staff forecasting reports)
- Help recruit, interview, and evaluate prospective employees
- Mentor, conduct performance evaluations, and counsel employees, take corrective actions (as necessary), and help approve salary adjustments and terminations
- Ensure that new employees receive orientation on company policies and procedures
- Review work (drawings, calculations, reports, specifications, schedules, etc.) produced to ensure that applicable codes, standards, and procedures are followed, and that quality is acceptable
- Monitor productivity and technical proficiency of assigned technical personnel and make reassignments as project needs develop
- Provide training and development opportunities for assigned personnel
- Support pre-contract and business development efforts as required, serving as technical consultant. Ensures client criteria and scope are met by all engineering disciplines / Expedite distribution of action items following discussions/meetings with the client and Project Manager / Strive to understand the client’s business goals and formulates action plans to enhance the project work and delivery methods
- Prepare technical reports and documentation of activity for the client and project management / Act as Project Manager’s deputy for certain activities, such as attending meetings in his/her absence, etc.
- Obtain, analyze, and circulate technical and contractual information to project disciplines/Review and coordinate change orders and supplementals
- Notify project management and other affected personnel of all changes /Participates regularly in decision-making meetings with the client and project management
Preferred Qualifications
- A Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering (or related field) is highly preferred
- PE Registration is highly preferred and may even be required for this role
- KDOT Project Design Experience
