Job Description Summary

The Congenital VAD RN Coordinator reports to the Peds Heart Center Nurse Manager Under limited supervision, the Congenital VAD RN Coordinator manages the care of VAD patients throughout their course of treatment. The VAD coordinator provides clinical expertise for multiple devices and provides ongoing quarterly and yearly education for all Heart Center staff members. The VAD coordinator also has extensive responsibilities for program growth, quality, outreach and ongoing equipment management and regulatory management. 

Bachelor’s degree in nursing required and three years related nursing experience. Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. Some positions require certification as a generalist in a related specialty area by the American Nurses Association (ANA). Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required

Job Summary/Purpose:

The VAD RN Coordinator reports to the Peds Heart Center Nurse Manager. Under limited supervision, the VAD RN Coordinator manages the care of VAD patients throughout pre-implant, peri-implant, post-implant by maintaining lab results, diagnostic results, and patient records. This role collaborates with the Lead VAD Coordinator to provide the most cost-effective and appropriate care for the advanced heart failure patient populations in person and via telephone triage. The VAD RN Coordinator will ensure patient records are complete and data entry is accurate and timely. This position will provide equipment management (ordering, set-up, incident logs and billing) for the VAD Program and actively manage INTERMACS data entry. 

Minimum Training and Education· A bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in nursing and three years of clinical nursing experience required; pediatric critical care/pediatric cardiac experience required. Nursing experience with VAD preferred. 

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Licensure as a registered nurse by the SC Board of Nursing or a compact state required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHArecognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
