Description
The Design & Construction Department is in charge of the planning and execution of innovative and functional workplace environments for JM Family Enterprises, Inc. The Space Planner plays a critical role in supporting these efforts by developing creative space solutions, managing workplace design projects, and ensuring seamless collaboration with internal teams and external partners.
The Space Planner is tasked with designing, planning, and implementing space solutions that meet the operational needs of JM Family’s business units. This role ensures precise floor plans, coordinates furniture needs and repairs, and supports both routine and project-based initiatives. Acting as a liaison between internal stakeholders, furniture providers, architects, contractors, and service providers, the Space Planner ensures the successful delivery of projects from concept to completion. The ideal candidate is a problem-solving and detail-oriented professional with solid project management and communication skills.
Responsibilities:
Space Planning & Design:
- Develop innovative and proficient space solutions to address occupancy, furniture, and layout needs.
- Create and update accurate floor plans and space utilization data using AutoCAD, Revit, or similar software.
Project Management:
- Oversee all phases of project execution, including scope development, budget creation, vendor and contractor selection, and scheduling.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, approvals, punch lists, and closeouts.
- Coordinate furniture changes, installations, and moves with minimal disruption to workplace operations, including nights and weekends when required.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Serve as the primary liaison for business units, ensuring their needs are captured and addressed effectively in all projects.
- Conduct and document project meetings, ensuring clear communication among all stakeholders.
- Provide regular project updates to internal teams and business unit representatives.
Furniture Management:
- Manage service tickets for broken furniture in coordination with the Facilities team.
- Respond to internal furniture requests, overseeing procurement and scheduling of installations or repairs.
System & Data Management:
- Maintain updated associate locations, occupancy metrics, and floor plans in the company’s Integrated Workplace Management System (IWMS), FM:Interact.
- Ensure accuracy and reliability of data to support strategic space planning decisions.
Additional Duties:
- Support departmental initiatives and cross-functional projects as needed.
- Flexibility to work nights and weekends for after-hours projects as required.
- Hybrid schedule: 3 days in-office, 2 days remote, with occasional in-office days on remote workdays based on project needs.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design or a related field; equivalent work experience will be considered.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in space planning, commercial furniture systems, or workplace design.
Skills & Competencies:
- Robust organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Demonstrated ability to shift priorities quickly in response to changing needs and deadlines.
- A sense of urgency and a results-driven mindset to meet project deadlines without compromising quality.
- Exemplary verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate professionally with internal teams and external partners.
- Proven ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision and collaboratively when necessary.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on delivering high-quality, customer-focused results.
Technical Proficiency:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint).
- Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, or similar design software; willingness to learn if not already proficient.
- Familiarity with FM:Interact (IWMS) preferred; experience with Procore and Bluebeam is a plus.
