Responsibilities
- Manages team dedicated to engagement with companies, including voting at shareholder meetings, ensuring sound analysis and professional judgment such that the organization achieves outcomes that best serve the economic interests of clients.
- Leads development of global proxy voting policies to ensure Nuveen’s proxy voting program meets regulatory requirements and market expectations.
- Leads high-profile engagements with company management teams and board members and advises portfolio managers on appropriate engagement escalation strategies.
- Develops proprietary analytics and measurement metrics for the organization’s stewardship activities to evidence leadership in active ownership and demonstrate ESG conviction.
- Drafts executive-level documents for the organization’s Boards and C-suite on the firm’s proxy voting activities and provide insights on market developments and stewardship best practices including but limited to representing the firm as required in industry events and key trade associations as well as managing vendor relationships with proxy service providers.
- Supports investment process by conducting ongoing monitoring of ESG characteristics / risk profile at a company and industry level and works with fundamental analysts to review company specific ESG issues both reactively and proactively.
- Enhances the methodology for proprietary ESG ratings incorporating quantitative and qualitative inputs learned from company engagement and understanding of emerging ESG issues.
- Produces proprietary ESG company level research for internal use and for external ESG thought leadership with emphasis on investment relevance.
- Oversees complex, group- or company-wide projects to ensure that project objectives are met, including the advancement of engagements impact on relevant stewardship issues.
Preferred Qualifications
- 7+ years of stewardship or related experience
- Leadership experience strongly preferred
