Requirements
- Successful completion of an accredited Surgical Technology Training Program (CST)
- BLS upon hire
- Certified Surgical Technologist Certification within one year of hire date
- Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically within a multi-functional team
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to successfully function in a fast paced, service oriented environment
- Knowledge of computers including Microsoft
- High school diploma or GED is required
- Graduation from formal, accredited surgical technologist program is required
- NCCT Surgical Technologist certification (TS-C) or NBSTSA certification is required
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS-HCP) certification upon hire or obtained within 60 days of hire with prior approval
Responsibilities
- Assists in nursing care and preparation of surgical patients
- Assembles, organizes and completes case carts according to doctors preference lists
- Provides appropriate instrumentation, suture and all supplies as requested and provides and maintains a sterile environment
- May assist surgeon by passing instruments to surgeon during cases
- Counts sponges, needles, blades and instruments using proper technique and established policy
- Assists in maintenance and care of specimens and prepares for laboratory analysis
- Handles specimens, implants, dressings, soiled instruments, contaminated materials and sharps in accordance with established policy and recommended standards of practice
- Assists with timely turnover of rooms, including clean up, replacement and restocking of supplies and equipment
- Cares for instruments and equipment
- Promotes mission, vision, and values of Intermountain Health, and abides by service behavior standards
- Performs other duties as assigned
- May be required to float to other departments (within scope of competency and qualifications) based on business need
- May be required to be placed on-call during a regularly scheduled shift
Preferred Qualifications
- 1 year of OR scrubbing experience is preferred
- 1 year of clinical experience in an accredited hospital is preferred
