Requirements
- In-depth knowledge of state employment tax, sales tax, and federal/state tax laws, with the ability to apply this knowledge in a business context.
- Previous experience in a tax-related field, with a strong understanding of tax filing processes and resolving tax notices.
- Proven experience in customer service, with the ability to effectively communicate and build strong relationships with clients.
- Ability to handle sensitive client information with a high level of confidentiality and discretion.
- Strong ability to identify issues and resolve problems in a timely and efficient manner, ensuring compliance and accuracy.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to clearly convey tax-related information to clients and team members.
- Proficient in using computers and software, including tax software, payroll systems, and other relevant platforms.
- Keen attention to detail when processing tax information, reviewing reports, and ensuring accuracy in all tasks.
- Ability to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and self-start projects, ensuring deadlines are met without supervision.
- Strong team player who works well in a collaborative environment and contributes to the success of the team.
Responsibilities
- Proficient in filing and processing payroll and sales-related business taxes across all 50 states.
- Research tax notices and liaise with appropriate tax agencies for clarification and resolution.
- Lead efforts to abate tax notices and follow up on abatement requests.
- Process amended or missing returns/payments.
- Identify and comprehend the root causes of tax notices, ensuring future compliance and accuracy.
- Assist with onboarding new clients by gathering, verifying, and setting up tax rates and tax IDs, ensuring accuracy before running their first payroll.
- Serve as the first point of contact for new clients regarding business tax matters.
- Assist in the training and development of new tax specialists, sharing best practices and knowledge.
- Research state and local employment and sales tax laws to ensure clients receive accurate and up-to-date information.
- Stay informed on the latest tax laws and regulations to maintain best practices in tax processing.
- Continuously improve knowledge and processes regarding tax filings, compliance, and best practices.
- Ensure timely responses to all client inquiries, maintaining clear and professional communication to address tax-related questions and concerns promptly.
