Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related discipline
  • CPA or equivalent credential
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in public accounting in taxation or equivalent experience with a strong focus on tax client service and/or tax practice operations
  • Minimum of 4 years in a managerial role
  • Working knowledge of applicable federal and state tax laws and regulations

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement quality control policies and procedures related to the tax practice
  • Monitor adherence to firm policies, professional standards, regulations, and best practices
  • Review and coordinate others’ reviews of tax workpapers, returns, and other documents as part of a tax practice inspection process
  • Identify quality control weaknesses and recommend improvements
  • Stay current on tax legislation, regulations, and industry trends to provide relevant guidance
  • Develop processes for connecting tax professionals throughout the firm with subject matter experts (SME) for tax issues identified as requiring SME involvement and signoff
  • Collaborate with tax leadership and other departments (audit, advisory) to enhance and align quality control practices
  • Conduct training sessions on tax practice quality control procedures
  • Mentor and guide tax professionals in maintaining high-quality work
  • Assess risks related to tax engagements and propose risk mitigation strategies
  • Investigate quality control deficiencies and recommend corrective actions
  • Prepare reports on quality control metrics, findings, and action plans, and present to firm leadership

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Taxation
  • Prior experience working at a national CPA firm
