Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology OR Associates degree in electrical engineering or electrical technology OR formal education equivalent to an Associate’s degree in math and science are required.
  • Individual must hold a valid motor vehicle license.
  • Individual will have to stand on call assignments.
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with transmission protection devices such as or similar to: carrier communication equipment, electro-mechanical and microprocessor relays, electrical protection principles and theories, electronic and computer controlled systems and devices, computer networking techniques and methods, National Electrical and National Electrical Safety Codes, relay and control operational and safety procedures, designing testing systems and equipment, strong organizational skills, utilizing interpersonal skills to communicate with coworkers, supervisor, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Performs power factor and breaker timing tests.
  • Analyzes and interprets test results and presents findings for review.
  • Performs basic relay testing.
  • Performs technical calculations for test applications.
  • Performs cable proof tests.
  • Performs cable locating and fault locating services.
  • Assists with the installation and testing of mobile transformers.
  • Locates sources of radio and television interference.
  • Performs prescribed tests on underground network protectors.
  • Performs and supports the troubleshooting, repairing, and testing of electrical devices such as recloser controls, battery chargers, voltage regulators, etc.
  • Adjusts and repairs substation recording and indicating meters other than watt hour meters.
  • Assists with substation modifications.
  • Assists with power quality investigations.

Preferred Qualifications
