Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field and typically 6 or more years of relevant experience
  • Proven experience in tool design engineering, preferably in the aerospace or manufacturing industry.
  • Strong knowledge of tool design principles and their application to manufacturing processes.
  • Proficiency in NX for tool design and modeling.
  • Experience with aerospace manufacturing processes, assembly techniques and requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations in the aerospace and manufacturing field.
  • Familiarity in applying and interpreting Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and procedures in tool design and manufacturing activities.

Responsibilities

  • Designing and developing specialized tools, jigs, and fixtures for the manufacturing and assembly of aerospace components and systems.
  • Collaborating with manufacturing engineers and design engineers to understand specific manufacturing requirements and constraints.
  • Conducting feasibility studies to provide recommendations for tooling solutions that optimize manufacturing efficiency and quality.
  • Using CAD software to create detailed tool designs, including 3D models, drawings, and specifications.
  • Conducting design reviews in collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure tool designs meet project requirements and standards.
  • Liaising with suppliers and vendors to select and procure tooling components and materials.
  • Developing and maintaining comprehensive tooling documentation, including design files, drawings, and specifications.
  • Supporting manufacturing and assembly teams in the implementation and use of specialized tools and fixtures.
  • Conducting tooling validation and verification activities to ensure tool performance and functionality.
  • Collaborating with technicians and operators, providing training and guidance on the use of specialized tools and fixtures.
  • Staying up-to-date with the latest advancements in tool design and manufacturing technologies.
  • Ensuring compliance with safety protocols and regulations in all tool design and manufacturing activities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in the aerospace industry or a related field.
  • Familiarity with aerospace manufacturing processes and requirements.
  • Knowledge of additive manufacturing technologies and their application to tool design.
  • Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) for tool design validation in FEMAP.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and certifications in the aerospace industry.
  • Experience with programming languages commonly used in tool design, such as MATLAB or Python.
