Requirements
- Able to communicate complex ideas in a manner that adapts to student needs
- Able to articulate program requirements to a variety of audiences, including students, parents, faculty, partner units, etc.
- Demonstrates basic communication skills
- Able to perform basic transactions in SIS
- Able to use relational skills such as active listening, interviewing/questioning techniques
- 0-3 years experience
Responsibilities
- Fosters student success by implementing proactive strategies that help students stay on track to fulfill their educational goals
- Assists students in selecting courses consistent with their developing goals and interests
- Advises students on university policy and procedures, program and degree requirements, and related academic matters
- Assists in student orientation and teaches student survey course
- Assists students in navigating the university and making referrals to other university offices related to the student experience, including academic, career, financial, psychological, etc. resources.
Preferred Qualifications
- Understands FERPA guidelines
- General knowledge of academic advising, including general education, enrollment plans, changing demographics, etc.
- Knowledge of general education requirements and learning outcomes
- Understands demographics of student population
- Able to identify a student’s progress toward degree
