Requirements
- 5-7 years of relevant work experience on Capitol Hill, Executive branch, trade association and/or experience working directly or indirectly with policy makers or the policy making process.
- 3+ years working in government relations, regulatory affairs, consumer product stewardship, public affairs or similar roles.
- Established understanding of the policy making process and external factors that influence the process.
- Ability to establish and maintain an intelligence-gathering strategy to proactively identify emerging trends that impact P&G.
- Ability to own and drive priorities within your policy portfolio.
- A working knowledge of Washington policy, politics, and process.
- Ability to work in Washington, DC a minimum of three days per week.
Responsibilities
- Perform government relations duties that support P&G business priorities on Capitol Hill and with various Executive Branch officials and agencies, as well as other stakeholders in the public policy making process.
- Play a critical role interpreting technical policy initiatives and proposals, analyzing their impact and communicating often with GR team members and business leaders for understanding.
- Partner with P&G business leaders and colleagues, always striving to identify public policy opportunities for growth.
- Develop and lead strategies that help the team accomplish objectives, including an understanding of best practices for communication with policy makers and staff, as well as with business leaders.
- Spot emerging issues and help develop relationships with key external parties in Congress, the executive branch, trade associations and other policy leaders to advance and protect business interests.
- Demonstrate a commitment to working in a bipartisan fashion with key relationships in Washington, DC and an interest to continuing to grow the network of P&G champions within the policy making community.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, chem engineering, environmental engineering, political science, public policy or related field.
- Experience and technical background on policy issues impacting household cleaning consumer products
- Experience working in a corporate environment or industry association managing corporate clients/stakeholders
- Awareness and working knowledge of consumer health and safety policy in state government
