Requirements

  • Associate degree in veterinary technology, biomedical science, animal science or a related area, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians in providing medical treatment, diagnostics, and nursing care to a variety of animal species.
  • Collect patient medical history and support initial patient evaluations.
  • Aid in administering medications, fluid therapy, and other prescribed treatments under supervision.
  • Assist in obtaining, processing, and submitting clinical pathology samples (e.g., blood, urine, feces, tissue) for laboratory analysis.
  • Support diagnostic imaging procedures such as radiography and ultrasound as directed.
  • Maintain accurate and complete patient medical records, including documentation of treatments and procedures.
  • Provide support in critical care and emergency situations under the guidance of professional staff.
  • Assist in monitoring patients for signs of distress or changes in condition and report concerns promptly.
  • Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized work environment in compliance with hospital protocols.
  • Assist in inventory management by replenishing supplies and ensuring the proper storage of medications and materials.
  • Conduct routine equipment checks and minor repairs as needed.
  • Support veterinary students in learning clinical techniques and best practices in patient care.
  • Assist in communicating basic patient care information to clients and pet owners as directed by veterinarians.
  • Follow all safety and biosecurity protocols to minimize risks to patients, staff, and students.
  • Adhere to hospital policies regarding zoonotic disease prevention, proper handling of hazardous materials, and controlled substance regulations.
  • Work effectively with veterinarians, fellow technicians, students, and support staff to ensure the highest standard of care.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions to enhance technical skills and knowledge.
  • Participate in college-wide meetings and events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience working in a veterinary clinic, hospital, research facility, or animal care environment.
  • Must possess exemplary interpersonal skills and be able to work in physically-demanding environments around animals, dust or hay.
  • Must show leadership, be self-motivated, able to multi-task, take initiative and actively contribute to the effective veterinary care of livestock.
  • Must be familiar with animal handling, care and restraint.
  • General understanding of methods and equipment used, such as Body Condition Scoring, anesthetic machines, fluid pumps, ultrasound or hematology equipment, and provide quality customer service to internal customers.
