Requirements

  • Registered Nurse having graduated from an accredited school of nursing with a background in maternal and child health, nutrition
  • Minimum of B.A. or B.S. in nutrition or dietetics. Deemed WIC Nutritionist eligible after a transcript has been reviewed by the Indiana State Department of Health to determine adequate nutrition credits were attained
  • Currently licensed as a registered nurse in the state of Indiana
  • Registered Dietitian: or eligible for registration, active registration, in good standing with the State of Indiana
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
  • One (1) year of previous work experience with WIC and/or nutritional counseling
  • WIC software and Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Access
  • Work well with multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural staff and groups
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Ensure WIC staff are well trained and managed
  • Promote breastfeeding as the preferred method of infant feeding
  • WIC Nutritionist and supervisory duties
  • Serve as a member of the Local Management Team (LMT) at health center locations
  • May perform duties of WIC Program Director in the Program Director’s absence, if appointed
  • Plan, implement, supervise, and coordinate WIC clinic operations
  • Set work schedules and assign tasks for all WIC staff
  • Administer personnel policies and procedures
  • Screen, train, and evaluate employees
  • Conduct regular staff meetings to keep staff informed of program requirements
  • Maintain county caseload within guidelines
  • Prepare, maintain, and review records and reports for timeliness and accuracy
  • Assure compliance with all applicable regulations; ensure universal precautions are observed by all staff
  • Develop and maintain an information system for consistent public relations communication with the community about the WIC program at IHC
  • Establish and maintain a referral system for community services outside the scope of IHC and WIC for WIC clients and staff
  • Inventory and order office and medical supplies, equipment, and furniture; process purchase requests, purchase orders, and invoices
  • Process payroll for staff
  • Establish, monitor, and perform nutrition services, including individual and group nutrition education
  • Perform WIC certifications, including: Taking anthropometric and biochemical measurements, Making nutritional assessments, Developing and documenting customized care plans and SOAP notes, Providing referrals, scheduling appointments, and issuing food packages, Provide nutrition education to patients and promote breastfeeding as the preferred method of infant feeding
  • Maintain routine and structured contacts with WIC staff and clients, IHC staff and medical providers, community members, and employees of other community service organizations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred
  • Internationally Board-Certified Lactation Consult (IBCLC) preferred
